Getting Started
Setting Up AphaSay for the First Time
Walk through the welcome screen, role selection (patient or caregiver), permissions, and profile setup.
- 1Download and open AphaSay
- 2Select your role: Patient or Caregiver
- 3Grant microphone and camera permissions
- 4Complete your patient profile — aphasia type, severity, family members
- 5Set up your daily goal and notification preferences
Connecting to Your SLP's Portal
How to link your AphaSay account to your speech-language pathologist using a 6-digit code.
- 1Ask your SLP for their 6-digit portal code
- 2Open Settings → SLP Portal → Connect
- 3Enter the code and tap Confirm
- 4Your SLP can now see your exercise scores and session data
- 5You control which recordings are shared

Running a FAST Stroke Assessment
Use AphaSay's guided 3-step stroke screener to assess Face droop, Arm drift, and Speech slurring.
- 1Tap FAST Check from the Dashboard or main menu
- 2Read and accept the medical disclaimer
- 3Step 1 — Face: Follow the on-screen prompt while the camera tracks facial symmetry
- 4Step 2 — Arms: Follow the arm drift instructions
- 5Step 3 — Speech: Say the prompted phrase for AI slurring analysis
- 6View your result: Normal, Abnormal, or Inconclusive
- 7If abnormal, call emergency services immediately

Speak — AI Reconstruction
Your First Talk Session
Tap record, say whatever comes out, and let AphaSay reconstruct what you meant.
- 1Tap the large Talk button on the Dashboard or the floating FAB
- 2Tap the microphone to start recording — the button pulses when active
- 3Speak naturally. Say whatever comes out, even fragments or wrong words
- 4AphaSay auto-stops when you pause. Or tap the button to stop manually
- 5The AI transcribes, then reconstructs your intended sentence
- 6Tap the speaker icon to hear it played back in your chosen voice
- 7If shown alternatives ('Did you mean…'), tap any one to speak it instead
Setting Up Your Voice Clone
Record voice samples so AphaSay can play back your reconstructed speech in your own voice.
- 1Go to Settings → Voice & Speech → Voice Clone Setup
- 2Tap Start Recording Samples
- 3Read each displayed phrase clearly — aim for 5–10 samples
- 4Tap Submit to send samples to ElevenLabs for cloning
- 5Wait 1–2 minutes for processing
- 6Tap Test Voice to hear the result
- 7Return to Talk and enable your cloned voice from the playback settings

Running Your First Selfi Calibration
Calibrate AphaSay to your baseline facial geometry before starting exercises.
- 1Open Selfi from the main menu
- 2Tap Calibrate — the app will prompt you if not yet calibrated
- 3Sit in good light, facing the camera at eye level
- 4Follow each prompt: jaw at rest, lips spread, jaw open
- 5The app captures your baseline in about 30 seconds
- 6Calibration only needs to be done once, unless you reset it in Settings

Step-by-step guide to Open Vowel (AH), Spread Vowel (EE), Round Vowel (OO), and Smile Hold.
- 1Open Selfi and tap Start Session
- 2AH — Open your mouth as wide as possible and hold. The overlay shows jaw opening score
- 3EE — Spread your lips wide and hold. The overlay scores lip spread symmetry
- 4OO — Round your lips forward and hold. Rep detected on hold duration
- 5Smile Hold — Smile as widely as possible. Left/right symmetry scored per rep
- 6After each exercise, see your rep scores
- 7Session summary shows totals, symmetry trend, and AI coaching note

- 1Open Quick Phrases from the main menu or Talk screen
- 2Browse categories: Greetings, Basic Needs, Medical, Emotions, Daily, Social, Emergency, Custom
- 3Tap any phrase to hear it spoken immediately in your voice
- 4Emergency phrases play instantly without confirmation
- 5Tap + to add your own custom phrases to any category
